Juliana (D&E) Fancy Stone Jewelry - Molded Red Gold Rose Art Glass Cabochon

I had never seen this fabulous stone used in Juliana (D&E) jewelry until I received this parure from Mr DeLizza's collection.  This stone is just outstanding.  The red parts of it just glow.  It is scooped out in several dimensions and accented with the raised rose and colored with the gold accents.  Just totally outstanding.

I am really hoping this is a design that was actually put into production so that more of them will be found.  It is possible that they were never made due to production costs of this fabulous stone.

If anyone manages to find any D&E designs using this stone I would love to see them.  It is probably the most fabulous stone I have ever found in D&E Jewelry.

Juliana (D&E) Fancy Stone Jewelry - Transfer Painted Fox Hunting Cabochons

In the mid to late 1980's D&E used two variations of a transfer painted fox hunting designed cabochon.  It was done in both round and oval shapes.

In Mr DeLizza's book on page 153 D&E he talks about how they made a group of jewelry Mr DeLizza calls a riding group.  It featured these cabochons and some other equestrian themed charm designed jewelry.  One of the big sellers of this design was Dottie Smith but I am sure they were also sold to others.  D&E also used these cabochons in their pleated ribbon designs.  They made earrings, clamper bracelets, pendant necklaces, brooches, and scarf rings.

These cabochons were something D&E purchased so you will see them used by other designers.

Some of these designs are shown in my book Juliana Jewelry - The Last Generation on page

218 and on page 149 of Mr DeLizza's book Memoirs of a Fashion Jewelry Manufacturer.

These designs can also be seen in the online database of confirmed Juliana Jewelry. IsItJulianaJewelry.com

If anyone has any Juliana Jewelry that we do not yet have on the database we would love to add your items to the database.  Contact me with a front and back photo of your items and they will be added.

Juliana (D&E) Fancy Stone Jewelry - Checkerboard Cushion Octagon Rhinestones

I call these rhinestones Checkerboard.  I am unsure what the official name for them is.  If anyone knows I would love to update this blog with the "official" name.

Juliana (D&E) used them in bermuda blue, heliotrope and vitrail (watermelon) colorations in cushion octagon (often called emerald cut) shape.

These designs are not often found.  So far found are a flat bracelet, necklace, three brooch shapes and two type of earrings.  Depending on what color of checkerboard was used the accenting rhinestones can be amethyst, green, or blue along with AB rhinestones.  The settings for these checkerboards stones are not pronged they are glue set.

I am sure other companies also used these stones so make sure when looking at the designs that the construction is consistent with the already confirmed items.

These designs can also be seen in my book Juliana Jewelry - The Last Generation on page 283 with a full page showing two different necklaces, two types of earrings and two different brooches in all three colorations.

Juliana (D&E) Fancy Stone Jewelry - AB Coated Irregular Baroque Cabochons

The AB coated irregular baroque cabochon is one not often seen in Juliana (D&E) jewelry.  I have only seen a handful of them in all my years with Juliana Jewelry.  They are mentioned briefly in Ann's book Juliana Jewelry Reference on page 86 showing only a bracelet.  She calls them AB Coated Irregular Baroque stones.  I have also found them described as molded iridescent lava glass.  I have been unable to find a date that these were used in D&E jewelry.

These stones are really gorgeous but extremely hard to photograph. They change color from blue to purple to gray depending on the angle of the light hitting them.  So far they have

only been found in one design scheme accented with gray and AB rhinestones.  I have also so far not found them used by any other manufacturer but they very well could have been.  The other possibility is that they were a small lot of stones purchased by D&E and used up and then no longer available.  If anyone has any more information on these stones I would love to have the information.  Or if anyone has any more examples of this design that would also be fabulous to see and add to the database.

You can find a few examples of this stone in the http://isitjulianajewelry.com database.

Juliana (D&E) Fancy Stone Jewelry - Moroccan Matrix Cabochons

The cabochons that D&E called Moroccan Matrix were used in so many different designs.  The stones must have been a huge hit with customers.  These stones were first seen in the design books in 1971.  D&E used a number of different colors of these cabochons and then accented them with many different colors of rhinestones and plastic and glass cabochons.  They were teamed up with ball chain and with other metal pieces.  All of these variations made a huge variety of looks.

Other designers also used these cabochons and some colors of them are still available for purchase.  These stones came in a number of different sizes but D&E only used a couple of sizes of them.

Ann's book, Juliana Jewelry Reference has Moroccan matrix designs on pages 105-108. My book Juliana Jewelry - The Last Generation has a full
chapter on Moroccan Matrix designs and that barely touched the surface of the designs.  There are big necklaces, small necklaces, pendant necklaces, various bracelets, many pin/pendants, tons of brooches, figurals, crosses and lots of different earring designs.  I will feature in this blog only pieces that have not yet been pictured in any book in any color scheme.
You can find many examples of this stone in the http://isitjulianajewelry.com database.

NOT D&E

This last brooch is an example of a Moroccan Matrix piece that is not D&E. I often see it identified as D&E.  Notice that it has different sized Moroccan Matrix cabochons that you see in the D&E examples.
